Bervie Water

The Bervie Water is in a post glacial environment. Current watercourse management policy emphasises “laissez faire,” but that means that the growth of trees, without properly coordinated management, when really large flood events occur, (like the Muckle Spate of 3 & 4th August of 1829 and the second flood event of 27th August the same year) – trees either displace watercourses &/or can be swept downstream, lodge at bridges, causing infrastructure destruction. A stitch in time saves nine!
